Had a fantastic time camping here. Large campground, but it was quiet and peaceful the entire time. Spot 60E was great because it was right by both bathrooms, the dump station, water, and dumpster. We went on the north hiking trails the first day and had a blast. Saw many different animals and even an owl!! Next day we did the southern part of the hiking trail. It was very long and there wasn't too much to see except the prarie and the large stone area.
Good camp ground, water dam, prairie, bison, cactus, prairie, rock outcroppings, quarry, and more. Take the bison herd tour, as we were able to get fairly close to the herd and our guide, Tiffany, took no bull : ). Well worth the ride in …
Blue Mounds is often referred to as the Stonehenge of Minnesota because of an east/west alignment of stones. It is named after the cliffs, which must look blue from afar but are more of a dark red. The rock is a local quartzite used in …
This park is the Gem of SW Minnesota . Lots of good hiking, rock formations and scenery. The park has an active bison heard that you can view. The campground is pretty large and has a new modern bathroom. Luvern MN is just fee miles and is a lovely small town.
I traveled to Blue Mounds for a weekend in late September and it was a fun place! I car camped (tent spot) at spot #13 and it was so nice. Right next to the river and close to the showers/bathroom. I would recommend using the …
Great camp ground with awesome facilities. Beautiful prairie and nearby Luverne was a surprisingly vibrant little town! A favorite state park for my family, worth the drive from the cities!
We took a beautiful 5 mile hike. Saw the Bison herd, the Rock alignment as well as the quarry. What a magical place.
Trails are easy to follow with a map posted at every intersection. Most trails are level grass or maybe some incline. I did six miles round trip, but there are enough shortcuts to create your own shorter route. Plus I got plenty of pictures of buffalo up close. The park is only six miles from I-90.
Stayed for a long weekend. Campground was clean and well maintained. Electric and non-electric sites only. You'll need to use your own water tank or bathhouse. Lots of trails for hiking or biking. Dogs loved the hiking.
Blue Mounds State Park campground is located on tree-lined paved roads tucked in between a prairie and farmers' fields. It's quite peaceful and relaxing, especially with most sites unoccupied during the week. …
